Floors ‘n Doors

The floorboard installation is now complete. I’m loving the natural finish and colour now that it’s down, and it’s completely transformed the rooms.

I’m almost daring to imagine furniture in here! Something I haven’t done so far. It’s felt too much like a building site.

The internal doors have also now been delivered, and they’ll start to be installed next week.

We’ve gone for oak panelled doors, some with glazed panels for where extra daylight is needed, such as between the internal hall and the boot room.

Then it’s architraves, skirtings, window sills, the build out of the kitchen, utility and bathrooms, installation of lights and sockets, and completion of the painting… still lots to do.

My main concern is getting in before the bad winter weather hits. Despite all the delays, and recognising that all this may not be finished in time, we are still hoping for October.

  1. Your flooring choice was a good one – it looks solid but not too dark and should go well with whatever paint colours and furniture you want rather than restricting you. Did you put your old furniture in storage or choose to get rid of it all and start again? Doors will make a big difference to the space again. I know there is still a lot to do but the end is in sight now.

    1. Thank you. The old furniture is in storage and we will be using that when we’re ready. It’s old, but functional. Nice as it would be to start afresh we can’t bring ourselves to get rid of perfectly good furniture, let alone countenance the expense, so although I’m sure that we’ll shed some, most will be used.

      1. However much you try to visualise your existing belongings in a new place it is only when you actually move in that you find what works and what doesn’t. That must be even more so when you only saw plans and drawings until after you moved. I expect it will be lovely to see your things again.

    1. Thank you Linda. We’re going to do our best! I’d really rather not have another highland winter in the caravan 😮

    1. I’ve been meaning to ask you if you’d be able to share your Seitan recipe with me? I’ve got some vital wheat gluten and I’d love to give it a try
