Festive thoughts from the croft

Like many people in these troubled times, Christmas for us this year will not be as it usually is.

Apart from the fact that we’ll be spending it in an ancient caravan perched on the side of a rain-swept hill, we will also not have the kids with us. It will just be husband and myself on the day.

We’re conscious that they are many others who don’t have a roof over their heads, good health, or enough to eat this Christmas. We’re very blessed that we don’t fall into any of these categories.

We will be together. We’ll be warm and dry with enough to eat. Our loved ones are safe, and we’ll be able to share calls with them on the day.

The house build is progressing, albeit slowly, and stands there, a promise to come and the culmination of many years of planning and hard work. We awake to this promise, along with some incredible sunrises, every day.

During the bizarre awfulness which 2020 has been, I count this all as success.

Wishing you all a peaceful, happy Christmas.

See you on the other side.

  1. I count it as success also; you have worked hard to be where you are, and what a glorious place to be in. Even though the world is on pause, you have reached a place where the future is bright, and the present is comfortable. Bliss!!
Enjoy your holiday season; it is Litha for us (Summer Solstice), so we are celebrating with water and fire (very carefully) and we have been blessed with rain!

    1. Thank you. Wishing you a good celebration for Litha. Our winter solstice is a celebration of fire and the return of the light with Yule marking the beginning of longer days. I’m glad for you that some of our rain has made it to you! 😊

  2. What a tremendous view! Yes , a very different Festive Season but you are right, focusing on the positives helps so much. I once had the best view I have ever had of the Aurora Borealis from where you are (or very close by!) so if clear skies continue, keep a look-out.😊 It’s a magical part of Skye. I hope you both have a lovely New Year and here’s to a much better 2021!🥂

    1. Thank you. We’ve not yet seen the aurora borealis for real here, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled as I know it will happen… Happy New Year to you too 💕
