I haven’t used a launderette for decades, so it was with some trepidation and a bag full of coins that we sallied forth to the Community Facilities at Kyle of Lochalsh to do our washing like the ex hippy teenagers that we are.

With no water in the caravan and having been on the road for ten days we’d both completely run out of clean clothes.
I’m amazed we lasted this long, to be honest. We used to do a clothes washing almost every day in London.
But that was in our old life. We’ve learned to embrace the muddier and scruffier side of being now.
The side benefit of this was a trip to the hot showers at the same place, designed for visiting yachtspeople, with plenty of space to hang wet outer clothes whilst getting clean.
And it would have been rude not to make a wee visit across the harbour carpark to Hector’s Bothy for lunch whilst the clothes were tumble drying.
We sat in a booth overlooking the sound, blinking in bright November sunshine and enjoying the sensation of being clean again, and ate our butties.
Today was a good day.

Sounds like a lovely day. I still get excited by the chance to have a hot shower too.

I think you have so much more style than I do… but bring it on 😁

Style is not a word that is normally associated with me, but thank you 😉

How Brilliant there were facilities for a shower. Well done in having discovered them.
You are bringing back memories of how, once the water did flow after eight weeks of being frozen in the coldest winter we’d had for years, my late hubs had connected the washing machine and it was the most insulated item we had. Working into the night as we did, getting the dust and mess off ourselves while not freezing before going to sleep. we used to set the machine to hot wash (empty) then pumped it out into a half size tin bath. Quickest bath ever as it was virtually outside!. Well done to you both at your new home, May this times be fun, even if arduous. Take care.

Ah, good memories are a treasure, are they not. Even if things didn’t seem that way with all the challenges at the time. Clever idea with the washing machine! The main reason for this blog is to remind me of all these things when we look back ☺️
